Extremely rare, apparently the second known example
Lot 1139
AEOLIS. Aegae. Pseudo-autonomous issue. Hemiassarion (Bronze, 18 mm, 2.09 g, 12 h), Apollonios Nemeonikos, magistrate. Time of Vespasian, 69-79. ЄΠI NЄMЄ... Head of Dionysos to right, wearing wreath of ivy and fruit. Rev. AI-ΓA-[Є]Ω-N Athena standing front, head to left, holding Nike in her right hand and resting her left on shield set on ground. RPC II 969A corr. (same dies, but Dionysos not Apollo on the obverse). Extremely rare, apparently the second known example. An interesting issue with a beautiful green patina. The reverse struck somewhat off center, otherwise, good very fine.

When the first example of this issue was published, the authors of RPC could only read 'ЄΠI NЄ' on the obverse, which they tentatively connected to the magistrate Apollonios Nemeonikos named on several Flavian issues. The present example confirms this connection, as it secures the reading of NЄMЄ[...]. This also explains the assimilation of the head of Dionysos (not Apollo, as in RPC) to Domitian
